Summary Box: Consumer confidence falls in July (AP)
Tue, 27 Jul 2010 19:02:10 GMT
FALLING CONFIDENCE: The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index slipped to 50.4 in July, from June's revised 54.3. It follows last month's nearly 10-point drop from May.
THE DISCONNECT: Consumer confidence has been fading as Wall Street has rallied amid upbeat corporate second-quarter profits. But those earnings have been fueled by cost-cutting and sales overseas.
BEHIND THE FIGURES: The index is a long way from 90 that's considered healthy.
